SPOKANE, WASHINGTON & PRESQUE ISLE American Flag ColorArthur Graves Wilder, 95, formerly of 42 Wilson Ave., Presque Isle, passed away peacefully on Oct. 12, 2012, in Spokane, WA. Art was born June 11, 1917, in Presque Isle, to Margaret Latitia McLean and Daniel Webster Wilder.
    He graduated from Bates College with a BS in Chemistry. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 where he served as a captain in aerial recon during World War II. In 1941, he married Virginia S. Parker of San Francisco. After the war, he obtained a Masters degree from Stanford in chemistry and worked for Stanford Research Institute and Lockheed-Martin as a metallurgist for 20 years. In 1969, he moved to Salt Lake City and worked for Christensen Diamond Products Co. Upon retirement, Art spent his newfound free time biking, enjoying the Utah outdoors, and above all, skiing. He was a charter member of the Wild Old Bunch ski club, consisting of 70+ powder skiers at Alta Ski Resort and kept skiing well into his 90’s.
    Art is survived by one son and two daughters: Art Wilder Jr. and wife, Linda; Peggy and husband, Jeff Elmer and Carol Wilder; plus 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, “Ginny”.
