HOULTON — Time is running out for those who wish to submit their ballots for the November election via the absentee process. According to Houlton Town Clerk Cathy O’Leary, requests for absentee ballots must be received at the town office by the close of business on Thursday, Nov. 1.
“In 2011, a new law established the cut-off date for accepting absentee ballot requests,” O’Leary said.
The Houlton town office will have extended hours on Nov. 1, opening at 7:30 a.m. and closing at 6 p.m.
Citizens may register to vote at the town office up to Election Day. On the day of the election, citizens may register at the polling place (Gentle Memorial Building). Starting Oct. 17, voter registration applications must be submitted to the town registrar in person. To register to vote, citizens must provide proper identification and proof of residency, such as a utility bill or other piece of mail.
