FREEPORT — The Aroostook Republican & News staff was recognized with eight achievement awards during the Maine Press Association’s annual banquet Oct. 13 at the Hilton Garden Inn.
The annual MPA “Better Newspaper Contest”? awards included: Natalie Bazinet earned first-place honors in both the editorial page and business section categories; Barbara Scott placed first in the news photo division; and the entire staff was recognized with top honors in the Newspapers In Education section judging. Bazinet also won second-place awards in the news story and headline writing categories and third place in the feature story division.
The Republican staff also earned second-place honors in the sponsorship page category for their “Caribou Cares about Kids” section.
In other press association business, managing editor Mark Putnam stepped down from the MPA board of directors after serving several terms.
