LIMESTONE — Helping Limestone youths find nice yet affordable gifts for family members, the Youth Group of the Limestone United Methodist Church will be hosting a Children’s Christmas Gift Shop on Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8.

This is the first time that the Youth Group will be holding the shop in the church’s basement, and organizers have been collecting new and gently used items from the congregation and community that mom, dad, grandma or grandpa would love to find under the tree.

“There’s candles and knick-knacks and purses and jewelry, wall hangings, Christmas ornaments …”  said Director of Youth Ministries Carol Castle, adding that group is still looking for some more dad/uncle/grandfather gifts.

With everything priced at a dollar or under, Castle explained how there will be tables set up to help kids pick gifts in their price range, like a 10 cent table and a 25 cent table.

“With the economy, people just don’t have a lot of money right now and I know kids like to buy things for their family members,” Castle said.

She explained that the Christmas Shop is a good service project for the Youth Group’s approximately eight members, who range from middle- to high-schoolers.

The volunteering teens will even gift wrap the purchases made by community children to help keep their perfectly picked presents a secret until Christmas Day.

Knowing that kids want to keep their purchases a secret, organizers are structuring the shop so that parents and adults can wait in the church’s dining room while the youngsters spend their Christmas quarters.
