Over $7,000 raised

for Ending Hunger Campaign

NorState Federal Credit Union hosted the third annual Ending Hunger Dance and Auction along with the Madawaska Knights of Columbus on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the K of C Hall.

The successful event raised over $7,000 for local food pantries and the Ending Hunger Campaign.

NorState’s vice president of branch administration and event coordinator, Stephen Gagne, confirmed a total of $7,258.19 was raised during the dance/auction with some 225 auction items donated by 140 businesses and individuals.

“Over 100 persons attended the silent auction. Along with ticket sales on a Kindle Fire as well as a half and half, we were able to top the $7,000 goal we had set starting out,” stated Gagne.

“The ‘live auction’ featured an anonymous donation valued at over $1,400. A happy winning bidder walked away with seven days of luxury in a private historical residence on Great Diamond Island off the Maine coast in Casco Bay,” added Gagne.

Marketing Director Denise Duperre-Cote added, “This annual event brings in auction-goers from Eagle Lake to Van Buren. There’s something affordable for every taste, from jewelry to tools, gift certificates, toys, handmade crafts and so much more.”

Donors, bidders, attendees and the charitable contributions by organizations and individuals to provide space or entertainment for this event add that much more to the fundraising efforts. NorState employees work hard for several weeks preparing for the dance and auction.

“We know that the benefits outweigh the hard work in the end,” added Gagne.

“People such as the auctioneer, the band Boomer-Ang, and the K of C members who gave so generously to be an active contributor to make it all possible, makes it so rewarding to aid in a local effort to end hunger,” added Duperre-Cote.

A good time was had by all who attended the auction, the dance or both. So if you missed out on the action this year, then mark your calendars for November 2013!
