Musterd runners awarded at banquet

    PRESQUE ISLE — The Aroostook Musterds Running Club held its annual awards ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Crow’s Nest Restaurant. The awards presentation was followed by dinner.
    Awards were presented to individuals who competed in at least four of the seven races designated as part of the County Challenge Race Series.
    The series begins each February with the Katahdin Snow Run in Houlton and concludes in September with the Caribou Labor Day. Points are awarded for overall and age group results in each race, including a participation point for each race completed.
    Marie Beckum was the overall female race series winner, followed by Nicole Green and Kimberly Wright. PJ Gorneault earned the overall male race series title, with Evan Graves and Chris Rines in second and third, respectively.
    Age groups were as follows: under 14: no female or male winners; 15-18: female, no winner; male, Tyler Strid; 19-29 female, Nicole Green; male, Rines; 30-39 female, no winner; male, Graves; 40-49 female, Angela Ewings; male, Jeff Irving; 50-59 female, Wright; male, Leo Kashian; 60-and-over female, no winner; male, Larry Tonzi.
    The awards portion of the evening ended by honoring Gorneault, who was named the 2012 Runner of Year. This award is voted on by members of the running club.
