WASHBURN – Clara Jean Porter, 78, wife of the late Ralph E. Porter, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at Leisure Gardens, Presque Isle. She was born May 5, 1934, in Wade, the daughter of Vinnie (Alley) and Leon Maynard.
Clara was a devoted wife and mother, who was known for her selfless and caring nature. She was married for 53 years, and is survived by her four daughters and their families, Lola and Donald Heath of Bangor, Lona and Robert Griffeth of Cross Lake, Lorri and Perry Jackson of Presque Isle, and Leslie and Erik Weeks of New Gloucester; 10 grandchildren, Jessica McMahon, Jason Griffeth, Joel Griffeth, Joshua Heath, Jordan Heath, Emily Heath, Daniel Jackson, Kyle Jackson, Jacob Weeks, and Thomas Weeks; three great-grandchildren, Kapri Griffeth, Nolan Heath, and Elodie Heath.
Clara was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; sisters, Marjorie Howe and Helen Conroy; and brothers, Kenneth, Perley and Jack Maynard.
Clara was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Washburn, where she served as the church’s treasurer and preschool Sunday school teacher. Clara’s strong faith was evident through the kindness and compassion she showed toward others. She was patient and loving, finding great joy in helping others. She will be sorely missed by her family and those whose lives she touched.
Visiting hours will be held from 1-2 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, at the First Baptist Church of Washburn with funeral services immediately following with Pastor Clark Jalbert officiating. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Clara may do so through the Memorial Fund at the First Baptist Church of Washburn, or the Leisure Garden Activity Fund, Presque Isle, ME.
