CARIBOU — Elvis was in the building at the Caribou Performing Arts Center on Saturday evening as the fifth annual Dancing Like a Star fund-raising event got under way.
This year’s program featured more than just the usual dancing. Vocal performances and a skit were added to the mix of performances from couples consisting of a Caribou High School student and an adult member of the community.
Dressed as thugs, birds, cross-dressers and astronauts, each pair put their hearts into their performance in the hopes of raising the most dollars and votes from the audience so they could have their name added to the winner’s trophy and raise money for CHS classes 2013-16, RSU 39 and Feed the County.
In the end, the couple with the most votes was Patty Searles and Paige Small, who out-Elvised each other during the King’s “A Little Less Conversation.” Coming in second with their Flamenco-inspired dance to Train’s “50 Ways to Say Goodbye” was Cathy Duffy and Elsa Thibodeau. Third-place winners were Sherrill Campbell and Emma Duplissie with their performance of a mash-up of “Happy Days are Here Again” and “Get Happy” originally performed on “Glee.”
Limestone Community School Principal Sue White hosted the show with CHS senior Meredith Sleeper. The event raised over $4,600.
More photos of the performers will be featured in next week’s edition of the Aroostook Republican.
