HOULTON, Maine — One of the area’s long-time radio stations has gone off the air, as of Tuesday.
Fred Grant, president of Northern Maine Media, Inc. spoke with the owner of Monticello based WBCQ 94.7 FM, Allan Wiener, and discontinued management of the station. “WBCQ has been a popular format with listeners; however, in recent months Mr. Wiener and his staff have had challenges keeping the station broadcasting on a consistent basis,” stated Grant. “Listeners have become increasingly frustrated with the inconsistency of the station and Northern Maine Media has decided to invest its resources in a new direction.”
WBCQ has used a classic country format for its broadcasts. Grant said WHOU has explored adding more of this type of music to its existing radio programming for listeners.
Northern Maine Media, Inc. owns Houlton-based WHOU 100.1 FM which was purchased in October of 2011.
