On Saturday, June 15, the Pregnancy Care Centers of Aroostook will hold one walk in all three locations — Presque Isle, Houlton and Fort Kent — at 9:30 a.m. The Walk for Life is a two-mile, police-escorted walk, rain or shine. The walk serves as a fundraiser for the organization.
“It is simple. Get a sponsor sheet. Ask your friends, neighbors, family and co-workers to sponsor you for whatever amount they want to give. Record your sponsors. You can collect the money, but you do not have to. If you do not collect the money, please get their mailing address and write neatly so we can bill them,” said Christie Corey, agency director.
A free T-shirt will be given to those who raise $250 or more. Call 554-8396 to request a sponsor sheet.
Walk locations include: Fort Kent, Riverside Park Pavilion; Presque Isle, Riverside Park; and Houlton, PCC, 106 Main St.
If you cannot walk on this date but want to help out, no problem. Get a sponsor sheet, raise your funds, walk on your own and drop the money off at the Center.
Funds raised will go to provide free pregnancy tests, maternity and infants’ clothing, parenting classes, material assistance (diapers, wipes, toiletry items), counseling for women who are seeking healing from a past abortion and the “Give Moms Credit” Program where mothers can earn specific baby furniture by attending parenting classes, watching educational videos and completing Bible studies and videos.
“We also have a ‘Survivor Intervention’ Program, which is designed to equip our young people with the tools necessary to face the current pressures they encounter daily,” noted Corey.
The Pregnancy Care Center of Aroostook is a non-profit, faith-based organization receiving no government funding. The PCC serves approximately 120 new clients each year and has about 850 client contacts per year throughout the three locations. Last year the organization recorded: 40 babies born, 71 enrollments in Give Moms Credit, gave 644 Bible studies and had amazing connections with women in the community. The main office, located in Presque Isle, has been serving Aroostook County since 1985. The Houlton satellite office has been serving the area for 13 years. In June 2011, a satellite office was opened in Fort Kent. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution, send it to: Pregnancy Care Center, PO Box 1553, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
