On Oct. 27, members of the Aroostook Association and Penobscot—Piscataquis Association met at the First Congregational Church in Lincoln to vote on combining the two associations to form the Katahdin Association.
The motion to do so was approved by all and the new association was formed. Following the vote, a short service was conducted, followed by communion and a fellowship dinner was enjoyed, served by members of the Lincoln church.

Attending from Island Falls were Candy McKellar, Riva Hawkes, Bertha Pray and Shelly Stevens. On Oct. 26, the Whittier Congregational Church held its annual fall “Trash and Treasure” and bake sale, with good attendance. A corn chowder was available in the kitchen during the sale and many bowls were enjoyed. At the end of the sale, a Halloween basket full of all sorts of handcrafts and homemade items was raffled off. The winner was Rebecca Drew, the Island Falls librarian.
All this cold weather has really brought out the little birds and I am kept pretty busy filling up the feeders. I am now putting out my famous peanut butter and lard mix and the woodpeckers really like that, as do the blue jays. I now have the little wrens, plus the chickadees, so have lots of my feathered friends to watch. Still no squirrels, thank goodness, but imagine they will soon show up.
It is now deer hunting season so the deer are not showing up as much but I am keeping my eye on the backyard for their appearance.
