HOULTON – Shirley Varney Martin, 89, died November 10, 2013, at her home with her children by her side. She was born May 16, 1924, in Millinocket, the daughter of Walter C. and Bertha (Carr) Varney.
Shirley was a 74-year member of the Military Street Baptist Church, joining in 1939. She always enjoyed times with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by two sons, Gary and Beth of Shapleigh, and Brent and Shelley of Houlton; two daughters, Ann Anderson of Houlton, and Jane Martin of Kittery; one brother, Hillis Varney; sister, Edith Walton; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, LeRoy (Alton) Martin; two brothers, Clayton and Kenneth Varney; two sisters, Madeline Connors and Vivian Eleiott Robertson; and her son-in-law, Joseph Anderson.
