PRESQUE ISLE — Police are asking for the public’s help in recovering three handguns reported stolen Saturday.

“On Jan. 11 the Presque Isle Police Department collected information regarding the theft of three handguns. The handguns were in an unlocked motor vehicle located on Third Street,” said Chief Matt Irwin, of the PIPD.
Irwin said the burglary of the motor vehicle and theft is believed to have occurred sometime between Jan. 10 at 10 p.m. and 9 a.m. the following morning.
“No serial numbers were made available at the time of the report. A File 7 has been sent out by this agency,” said Irwin.
Irwin provided a description of each of the weapons.
“The guns taken included a Taurus 24/7 compact .40 caliber, with a blued slide and black polymer frame; a Bersa Thunder ‘Combat’ .380 caliber, with blued frame and OD green handgrips; and a Smith & Wesson model 439 9mm, with a red front and green rear sights,” said Irwin, noting no additional information is available at this time.
Local pawn shops and gun dealers have been notified of the theft.
Irwin asks anyone with information on any of these handguns please call the PIPD at 764-4476 or Aroostook Crime Stoppers at 800-638-8477.
Police urge everyone to secure valuables. Never leave anything of value in an unlocked vehicle. If you must leave something in your car, be sure to put it out of sight.
