FORT FAIRFIELD – Gail M. (Helstrom) Wortman, 52, passed away Wednesday morning, January 22, 2014, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle of cancer. She was born November 9, 1961, in Caribou, the daughter of Edward M. and Elouise F. (Giggey) Helstrom.
Gail attended school in Fort Fairfield and was a member of the Fort Fairfield community her entire life. Gail married the love of her life – high school sweetheart, Gailen Wortman, on June 4, 1983. Gail was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. Gail loved being surrounded by her children and family and also loved cooking, gardening, and was an avid Tony Stewart FAN!
Gail was predeceased by both of her parents; a brother, Greg Helstrom; and a nephew, Kevin Helstrom. Gail is survived by her husband; daughter, Jennifer and her companion, Karl Malagon; two sons, Joshua and his companion, Desiree Theriault, and Jacob; four grandchildren, Bryce Wortman, all of Fort Fairfield, and Karla, Krista, and Kayla Williams of Presque Isle. Gail also leaves behind three brothers, Gary Helstrom, Gailen Helstrom and his wife, Marilynn, and Gene Helstrom and his wife, Patti; a father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Audrey Wortman, all of Fort Fairfield; three sisters-in-law, Darlene Tompkins of Tazewell, TN, Susan Cloney of Rock Hill, SC, and Mallory Wortman of Fort Fairfield; as well as several special nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of Gail’s life at one of her favorite spots – the Wortman flat, 885 Caribou Road on the first weekend of June 2014 (June 7).
