It’s time for area senior scholar-athletes to apply for Northern Region of Maine Sports Legends scholarships. Applications have been mailed to all Aroostook area guidance offices and the deadline to apply is May 20.
The Maine Sports Legends is a state-wide organization dedicated to honoring outstanding scholar-athletes who have met the prescribed standards in academics, have participated in their school’s varsity athletic programs along with possessing good character, completed community and civic involvement and shows strong leadership ability.
This scholarship of $500 is awarded to one male and female from Aroostook County and will be awarded solely on the basis of the student’s credentials and shall be made without regard to financial need.
There will be eight scholarships awarded statewide by the Maine Sports Legends. The northern area is proud to acknowledge McCain Foods of Easton in 2007 and again from 2009-2013 along with Katahdin Trust Company from 2006-2013 as scholarship donors.
Many other local businesses and individuals in Aroostook County have provided varied financial donations to our scholarship program over the past years. The Northern Region of Maine Sports Legends is looking forward to continuing this relationship with local businesses and individuals for the 2014 scholarships and in the future.
Businesses which are scholarship donors or give a financial donation will be acknowledged in the annual Maine Sports Legends banquet program booklet that is distributed statewide.
