WASHBURN, Maine — A new officer has joined the ranks at the Washburn Police Department.

“We have a new officer, Luke Blackstone. He’s worked with us for a year as a reserve officer and was hired full-time in December 2013,” said Chief Roy Guidry.
Guidry said Blackstone has a busy summer ahead of him.

“Luke will be going to the Police Academy in Vassalboro in August to complete his full-time certification,” said the chief.

Prior to working at the department, Blackstone studied criminal justice at Liberty College. The hiring of Blackstone brings the number working with the department to six.

“He’s doing a great job. He’s a great person to work with and gets along well with the public,” said Guidry.

“Luke has a good common-sense approach to law enforcement and is well respected,” Guidry said.

Blackstone is married and has two children.
