CARIBOU, Maine — With Councilors Philip McDonough II and David Genthner, Sr. opposed, the Caribou City Council set the mil rate for the city at 22.3 during Monday night’s council meeting.
That mil rate gives the city an overlay of $89,000, which City Manager Austin Bleess said was better than last year.
Also during the meeting, council held a public hearing on the declaration of dangerous structures at the former Birds Eye site on the corning of Fort Street and U.S. Route 1; meeting with property owner Steve Nasiff, of Nasiff Land LLC of Berkley, Mass., among other stipulations, the council gave Nassiff one week to either secure the property with fencing or have constant supervision for the site, as it poses a threat to the public as an unattractive nuisance.
