The Houlton Parks and Recreation Department has added two more camps for children to their summer list of programs.
“Smart Art” Camp
Youth are invited to come spend the week drawing and painting with friends. This camp will be held on Monday, Aug. 11 through Thursday, Aug. 14 from 1-3 p.m. Youth are to meet at the recreation center on the first day. Instructor for the camp is Sandra Donnelly and she will be instructing the children not only in art, but in “Ocean Mysteries.” Discover and imagine the deepest part of our oceans. Weird creatures reside in the deepest parts of the seas. Youth will discover the ring of fire … who lives in such toxic conditions? After exploring, the children will create a wonderful painting of these odd animals and their environment. So let’s explore and create!
Children in grades 2 and older are invited to participate in this camp. Cost for the camp is $30 per child. To register, call the Houlton Recreation Department at 532-1310. Payment is due on or before Aug. 1. These “Smart Art” programs are very popular, and there must be a minimum of 10 children to hold the camp.
Musical Theater Camp
For those youth who like to sing and act, a production of “Once Upon a Lily Pad” — a heart warming musical that shows that each of us is special if we just let our own light shine — is going to be performed on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 11:30 a.m. But, those who want to participate must join the Musical Theater Camp.
This camp will be held the week of Aug. 18 through Aug. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Houlton Recreation Center. Children in grades 2-6 are invited to participate. Director Valerie Schultz will guide the children through this musical. At the end of the camp, a performance will be held for families and friends.
Cost for this camp is $45 per child. To register, call the Houlton Recreation Department at 532-1310. Payment is due on or before Aug. 1.
This camp is limited to 20 participants, so be sure to register early to be part of this fun performance.
