Frost Memorial Library holds 13th annual Linda M. Page Remembrance Walk-a-Thon

LIMESTONE, Maine — The Frost Memorial Library is holding their 13th annual Linda M. Page Remembrance Walk-a-Thon on Saturday, Sept. 13.
The walk-a-thon will begin and end at the Robert A. Frost Memorial Library, located at 42 Main Street in Limestone. There are two routes people can choose to walk. Walkers may choose their preferred path and walk at their own pace. Refreshments will be provided at the end of the walk. There will be door prizes awarded with a special prize for the walker who collects the highest dollar amount in donations. Participants can pick up pledge sheets at the library.
“In previous years, the walk-a-thon donations went toward the 2009 building expansion at the library,” said Librarian Jessica Givens. “Since paying off the loan earlier this year, our fundraising efforts have focused on building up the library’s endowment fund.”
As far as what the donated money will be used for, Givens explained that the focus committee was currently in the process of deciding exactly what to do with the funds, but the money is usually saved for emergency purposes.
“We were in the process of deciding whether to create dedicated sub-funds within the endowment,” said Givens. “In general, the earnings from the endowment are kept for unexpected emergencies or large capital expenditures.”
The Library’s focus committee met on Aug. 26 to discuss dedicated sub-funds with a Maine Community Foundation representative. According to Givens, it was decided at that meeting the library wouldn’t be creating any sub-funds, but simply putting the money in the endowment fund.
The walk-a-thon was renamed the Linda M. Page Remembrance Walk in 2009. Linda Page spent years as assistant librarian, librarian, volunteer and was always a strong advocate of the library.
“I never had the opportunity to meet Linda Page, but I’m grateful for all the work she did for the library as a librarian and as a volunteer,” said Givens. “It’s clear from talking to our patrons that she was well loved and a great asset to the library and the community.”
“We appreciate all of the people who walk or donate,” said Givens. “I participated in two walks before becoming the librarian and had a great time. It’s a fun way to support the library while enjoying some fresh air and good company.”
Check-in will begin at 9 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10 a.m.
This year’s walk is sponsored by the Robert A. Frost Memorial Library’s Focus Committee.
