Ricker board elects new officers at annual meeting

The Ricker College Board of Trustees held its annual meeting on Oct. 31.
The meeting began with the Rev. Dan Watson offering a moment of prayer for Jay Clark, who not only served as a member of the board for many years, but was also an instructor at the college.

The board elected the following officers for the year 2015: chair, Teran Clark; vice-chair, Woodrow Dunphy; treasurer, Gerald Riley; and secretary, Alison Bossie.
Trustees re-elected for three-year terms were Susan Nason, Lanny Putnam, Bob Lyons and Jerry McCarthy. Gary Bossie will continue serving as executive director.
Newly elected to the board was Greg Sherman, who will serve a 12-year term.
Director Bossie reported on numerous matters. Although no formal treasurer’s report is presented until the May meeting, he explained that Ricker is alive and well with an endowment of $3.2 million. Ricker has awarded over $3.7 million in scholarships to area high schools since it began in 1978. This year Ricker will be sending out checks amounting to $147,000 to colleges around the country.
The director also presented a trustee jacket to Greg Douglas, trustee emeritus, for his dedication to the board from its beginning.
Bossie also congratulated Joe Inman for his selection as a trustee emeritus. As well as having attended Ricker and serving as its librarian, Joe’s family connection with Ricker goes back almost to its inception.
The Ricker College Board is a private, nonprofit, charitable corporation which administers funds bequeathed to the board for educational purposes.
The board maintains its office at 30 Market Square in Houlton. Application forms are available through the guidance departments of area high schools or online at www.rickerscholarship.com.
