HODGDON – Josephine Louella Hand, 96, died November 13 at Southern Maine Medical in Biddeford after a short illness. She was born February 17, 1918, in Houlton, the daughter of May Blackie and adopted parents, Dale and Willia Blackie of Hodgdon.
She met and married Charles W. Hand. Her greatest love in life was her family, grandchildren, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed camping, gardening, knitting, traveling with her children, spending winters in Florida and Kennebunk, and holiday get together with family and friends. Reading was her passion. She was a very creative, kind and inspirational woman to all who knew her. Though she will be sadly missed, her loved ones feel blessed to have been inspired by her.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Benn and her husband, Gerald, of Hodgdon, Mary Currie and Robert of Kennebunk; daughter-in-law, Dee Hand and step-siblings, Lorraine Carr of CT, James and Donalene Blackie of Hodgdon, Dale and Althea Blackie of Scarborough. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Georgette Hand, son, Wayne Hand; stepbrother, Frankie Blackie.
