The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Sept. 1 at the Aroostook Health Center and the speaker was Rotarian Larry Fletcher. He spoke about the changes that have taken place over the last 38 years since he opened A & M Auto Repair.
He realized recently that he is working on his fourth generation of vehicles — owned by the great-granddaughter of one of his earlier customers!
He has had some help over the years, but only has his son working with him full time. He has also bought new equipment over the years, but prefers to stay low-tech as much as possible. He doesn’t have a fax machine or computer and still uses a rotary dial phone. It’s been on the wall for years, and as long as it still works, that’s good enough for him!
He is also known for having an “Adult Day Care” with many men stopping by each day to discuss whatever is on their minds. Larry admits that he has learned a lot over the years by listening to his daily visitors!

Upcoming events for the week of Sept. 9-15 include: Wednesday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., visit from the Fort Street third-graders at 9:30 a.m., and Back to School Reminiscing at 1:30 p.m. Thursday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m., Horse Racing at 1:30 p.m. and Faith Baptist at 6:30 p.m.
Friday will feature Shopping and Lunch at Walmart at 9 a.m. and Karaoke with Larry and Larry at 1:30 p.m. Saturday will feature Girl Scout Bingo at 1:30 p.m. Sunday is Grandparents Day and will feature Sunday Service with Jonathan at 1:30 p.m.
Monday will feature Nail Beautiful at 10 a.m. and Devotions with Velma at 2 p.m. Tuesday will feature the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m., and Card Games at 1:30 p.m. All of these activities are subject to change. If you would like to volunteer to help with any of these activities, call Connie or Vicki at 768-4915.
Bingo change
The William Cousins Post 118 of Mars Hill is now hosting Bingo on Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the Post. There are cash prizes. Refreshments are available. Come on out and enjoy a fun evening with friends!
