Historical Pavilion delights all ages

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The 18th annual Historical Pavilion of the Northern Maine Fair was a huge success with over 950 visitors during the 12-hour exhibit.

The public responded to the show with record-breaking balloting for their favorite displays. Winners were: Best Artifact, 1946 potato truck owned by Richard Rand; Best Living History Demonstration, Most Knowledgeable Staff and Best Overall Exhibit, Gui Landry for the authentic blacksmith exhibit; and Best Display by a Business, City of Presque Isle, with city grant writer Kim Smith accepting the award on the city’s behalf.
The Pavilion was established as part of the fair in 1997 as a means to draw additional fairgoers and to develop interest in local history. This year, exhibits represented a wide range of interests, including businesses showcasing their rich history in Aroostook County, fascinating living history demonstrators, genealogy workshops, interesting and unique historical artifacts, and knowledgeable staff.
The Pavilion runs Tuesday through Thursday every year during the fair with hours from 4-8 p.m.
Organizers said visitors commented on the “intimacy” of this year’s Pavilion and their ability to spend time with each exhibitor and discuss all things historical, with all ages commenting it was “the best part of this year’s fair.”
