Local students release salmon

DANFORTH, Maine — Students from Houlton Southside School, Hodgdon Mill Pond School, East Grand and the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians took part in a salmon release program May 16, 2016. Temperatures hovered in the mid-30s and snow and wind greeted the students.

Those involved in the release were David Townsend, Pete Chase, Margaret Cook, Mike and Judy Saunders, Renee Telierre, Tom Boulier and the Quigley family. Gerry Wilson and Bob Lyons also attended the event with their boats to help with the release of yearling salmon.

Students from Leanne Kinnens third-grade class at Houlton Southside School, joined with Sara McQuarry’s class from Mill Pond School and David Apgar’s class at East Grand School. They were also joined by Cara O’Donnell’s students from the HBMI.

A total of 106 students took part in the release.
