NWS extends Fort Fairfield flood advisory

CARIBOU, Maine — The National Weather Service in Caribou Maine has extended the flood advisory for an ice jam in eastern Aroostook County in northern Maine until 230 PM Wednesday, April 12, 2017.

According to NWS reports, at 7:59 a.m. EDT, an ice jam was continuing to cause minor flooding in the Fort Fairfield area. Emergency management reported flooding resulting in the closure of of Russell Road in Fort Fairfield, with no houses impacted. Latest reports indicate that the road remains closed due to ongoing flooding in the area.

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in low-lying stream benches or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

The NWS reminds motorists to “turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
