Ways to report Spring sports

HOULTON, Maine — With the spring high school sports season now underway, the Houlton Pioneer Times, The Star-Herald and The Aroostook Republican and News are seeking help from coaches and managers in reporting results in a timely manner. When possible, the newspaper requests that game information be sent in as soon as possible after its completion as results will be posted on our website on a daily basis.

Information should be submitted after each contest, and not just for home games as oftentimes, the opposing team may not send in results, or may have local player’s names  incorrect.

The newspaper strives for excellence in its reporting. With so many games on any given day, it is not possible for us to be at every game. Therefore, we rely on coaches to send in results so that local teams receive the coverage they deserve.

For baseball/softball, the newspaper requests that coaches report the following information: final score; score by inning; offensive stats including a player’s first and last names (example: John Doe had two doubles, home run, two stolen bases, and scored three runs); any pitching stats (Jane Doe allowed three runs on four hits and two walks, with seven strikeouts in seven innings); and finally, any comments you may have on how your team played are always welcome.

For tennis, please report the individual match results (example: Joe Jones beat Jack Dow, 8-3). If you have any coaching comments on how the match went, or any individual efforts that were logged that you feel are worth noting, please include that.

For track and field, please send the full meet results along with any comments you may have on individual efforts by your track athletes.

Results from southern Aroostook County may be reported to News/Sports reporter Joseph Cyr at 532-2282 or emailed to jcyr@bangordailynews.com. Results for central Aroostook County can be reported to Sports Reporter Kevin Sjoberg at 768-5679 or emailed to ksjoberg@bangordailynews.com.
