Caribou rec has many upcoming events

CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department offers some exciting programs and events that are coming up this month.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife ATV Safety Course covers ATV operation, laws, landowner relations, first aid and other state-mandated subjects. The class will be held Saturday, April 29 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center.

Those between the ages of 10 and 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required and those attending should bring a bag lunch.

A babysitter’s training course is set for Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for ages 11-15 at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center.

The purpose of this course is to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care to children and toddlers. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills, learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave, and learn about basic child care and basic first aid.

Bring a bag lunch. The registration fee is $35 and is being underwritten by Healthy You. Pre-registration is required.

The annual Mother Son Dance will be held on Friday, May 5 from 7-9 p.m. at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. Admission is $5 per couple. Photos by Duane are available for a fee of two 4x5s for $6 and four 4x5s for $10. Music is provided by Music-X-Press. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend.

The Pitch Hit and Run competition will be held on Sunday, May 21 at the Teague Park ball field. Check-in is at 2 p.m. with the competition starting at 2:30 p.m.

This competition will give youth a chance to see how accurately they can pitch, how far they can hit and how fast they can run. The program is for youths ages 7-14. Age is determined as of July 17, 2017. Pre-registration is required. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be held inside the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center.

Beginning May 1, the hours at the wellness and recreation center are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. The center will closed Saturdays and Sundays.
