LIMESTONE, Maine — Loring Job Corps Center has announced Larique Smith Nash as the star student of the quarter.

Nash  joined the Loring team in November 2015 and is from New Jersey.  Prior to Job Corps he had been working regular entry level jobs in New Jersey when he came across an ad for technical training being provided from Job Corps. Wanting to obtain a skill in a trade, he decided to join and come to Loring to take advantage of the center’s Computer Cable and Networking CISCO certification program, as well as the opportunity to better himself for later goals.

According to Job Corps staff, once on center, Nash quickly took on every challenge and opportunity presented to him, excelling in both his trade and residential settings. He became a wing leader in his dorm and an active member of the student government. In his spare time he also can be found mentoring the new students on center and helping them develop goals.

Nash’s goals are to complete his trade certifications in the CISCO trade and then attend college for further training in computer development. In the long term, he wants to continue to learn at every opportunity and enter the computer IT field.

Nash thanked the center for being selected as the student of the quarter and for showing him a path to reach his goals. “Anything is possible, but it’s up to you to make the first step, he said, adding his only regret is that he didn’t come to Loring sooner.

He called Loring an amazing place to learn and encouraged anyone looking to better themselves to check out the advantages of Job Corps.
