From the Bunkers – week of June 7, 2017

Finally, a nice weekend at the golf course with many people taking advantage of the weather. With nine teams and 36 golfers participating in the 17th Annual Memorial Tournament, the team of Jerry York, Jane York, Dick York and Sue Waite-York, and player coach Dewey Dewitt outlasted the field with a 13-under-par score of 59.

The second-place team of Marty Bouchard, Sean Dolomont, Warren Walker and Clay Halliday played tough, as did the third place team of Larry and Barb Tonzi, Danny Williams and Bruce Avery.

Barbara Moakler and Dick York won Closest to the Pin honors.  Thank you to all participants for your support, as all monies raised went to Course Beautification.

The Men’s Twilight League begins play this week with lots of strong teams.  League players can check the HCGC website for the season schedule.  The Ladies Association began its 2017 play last week with 20 seasoned players and are hoping more will come out and enjoy golf and the 19th hole.

Some upcoming events to mark on your calendar:

– Friday, June 16, will be the first Couples Scramble Night at 5 p.m. Call the Clubhouse to sign up now, as we’d love to see 8 to 10 couples out here.

– Saturday, July 1 at 9:30 a.m. is the 13th Annual Houlton Alumni Association Scramble.  This 9 Hole Event is very popular, so sign up now as we get filled up quickly. Guests are welcome. Sign up as a single or twosome and we’ll pair you with a group.  You do not have to be a Houlton High grad to participate.

The Lakeside Restaurant at the course is open for business and getting busier as the weather warms up. Call Nancy at 694.9494 for lunch or dinner reservations Wednesday through Saturday and their famous Sunday brunch.
