Emilie C. Lovley

MAPLETON, Maine – Emilie C. Lovley, 81, of Mapleton, Maine, and Tiverton, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully in Fall River, Massachusetts, on June 4, 2017, with her loving family by her side.

Emilie was born August 3, 1935, in Mapleton, the daughter of Forest H. Chandler and Gladys (Smith) Chandler. A graduate of Mapleton High School and Husson College, her dreams began to unfold when she married her high school sweetheart and classmate, Carl D. Lovley, on June 7, 1955, which was her grandparents, Milton and Emily Smiths’ golden anniversary, and her parents’ 22nd anniversary.
Emilie and Carl traveled the United States in support of Carl’s career in the potato industry. She embraced the farm life and the responsibilities of being the woman behind a successful businessman. A devoted wife and mother, she found time to do the bookkeeping for the farm and was always willing to lend a helping hand in the field whenever needed. Loving the community where they were born and raised, Carl and Emilie built their retirement home two miles down the road from the farm they had purchased and lived on since 1955. With her ability to visualize and his woodworking skills, they created a beautiful homestead. From family, friends, employees, classmates, church members, Boy Scouts, and people in the potato industry, they enjoyed entertaining and welcomed all to their home.
Emilie had the gift of writing well thought out, personal, and uplifting notes to many. Her sense of humor was exhibited by her pen name, Grammie Magoo. Known to many was the playhouse built to scale by her father in the 1940s for her tenth birthday. She was a lifetime member of the Mapleton United Methodist Church, overseeing the Memorial Fund and serving as Treasurer for many years. She was involved in the Maine Agri-Woman, Mapleton Extension, Aroostook River Snowmobile Club, PIHS Athletic Boosters, and FFA.
Predeceased by her husband and parents, Emilie is survived by her three daughters, Cynthia McPherson and Susan Lovley both of Marathon, Florida; and Sandra Lovley and husband Jean Galipeau, of Tiverton, Rhode Island; grandchildren, Tate McPherson and wife Jenny; Torey McPherson and wife Jennifer; Treena McPherson; Hannah Richards; Ariel and Chantal Galipeau; and great-grandchildren, Chandler Caron; Reese, Bodey, Grace and Tyler McPherson. In addition, she is survived by her brothers, Darrell Chandler and his wife Marilyn; and Donald Chandler and his wife Alice; all of Mapleton, Maine.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all who prayed, visited, and assisted with her care. Relatives and friends may call at the Mapleton United Methodist Church, on Thursday, June 8, 2017, beginning at 10:00 a.m., until the service officiated by pastors John DeFelice and Sue Brown at 11:00 a.m. A time of fellowship will follow.
