CARIBOU, Maine — Ryan Deprey has stepped down as coach of the Caribou girls’ varsity basketball team.

Deprey submitted his resignation in late-May, according to Caribou High School Athletic Director David Wakana.

A physical education instructor at Caribou Middle School, Deprey also had coached middle level soccer in the past and last spring resigned as coach of the Vikings’ varsity softball team after 12 seasons.

Deprey coached the Caribou girls’ basketball team for seven seasons and his teams compiled a 29-99 overall record during his tenure. In his first season in 2010-11, the Vikings went 9-9 during the regular season and finished in sixth place in Class B, making it into the tournament, where they lost in the quarterfinals.

The team has missed the playoffs five of the last six years.

Wakana said an announcement of a new coach could come as early as this week.
