HOULTON, Maine — The second annual “Strides 2 Strengthen” 5K fun run/walk will be held Saturday, June 24, at Houlton Community Park.

The race serves as a fundraiser for the Aroostook Council of Healthy Families, a community organization committed to strengthening families in Aroostook County by providing and advocating for education and support for families.

According to race organizer Bonnie Dickison, community educator for the council, the race will be a fun, family focused community event. “Whether you are a serious runner or enjoy a casual stroll on a Saturday morning, you are invited to come participate in this race,” she said. “We hope to see moms and dads, grandmothers and grandfathers, aunts, uncles and lots of kids.”

New this year is a children’s race, starting at 9 a.m., followed by a walker’s event at 9:30 a.m., while the runners take off at 9:45 a.m.

“We are super excited to introduce a children’s event to this year’s race,” Dickinson said. “And we are happy to again provide family fun giveaways.”

The race begins and ends at the exhibit hall building in Community Park. Awards will be presented in the timed event to the top male and female finishers in each age category. Every child who participates in the children’s event will receive an award.

In addition, random numbers — selected from the runner’s race bibs — will be drawn to determine the winners of door prizes.

Registration and a signed waiver form will again be required for all participants. This year’s entry fee will be by donation. For more information, call Dickison at 532-7405.
