CARIBOU, Maine — World War II veteran Robert Brown solved the riddle in the June 14 installment of “Any ID Who?”
The photograph of the young military man in the Aroostook Republican feature looked familiar to Mr. Brown. “I know that picture,” Mr. Brown told his wife.
Taking out one of his family albums, he saw the same photo. The man in the photograph is his father, Clarence C. Brown, who was sometimes referred to as just C.C.
Clarence C. Brown was born on July 18, 1895, in Caribou, and was married to Mildred J. Maxwell. C.C. Brown was appointed corporal on Nov. 1, 1917, and was a member of Battery B, 303rd Field Artillery during World War I. He passed away on Aug. 19, 1956, in Presque Isle and is buried at Riverside Cemetery.
“It is always exciting to find out the identity of one of our photographs,” said library director Anastasia Weigle. “What was once an ‘orphaned’ photo has been brought back to life.”
Robert Brown and other family members have been invited back to the Caribou Public Library in mid-July for an oral history interview session.
