The University of Maine at Presque Isle soccer teams are hoping that homecoming weekend brings a change in momentum for the struggling squads.

Both the Owl men and women are in the midst of losing streaks heading into Saturday’s matches against Unity College at Park Family Field in Presque Isle.

The women’s game begins at noon, with the men’s match following at 2 p.m. The women also play Sunday at home against SUNY-Canton, again at noon.

The UMPI men have now lost three in a row and the squad holds a 2-7 overall record after dropping a pair of matches in Massachusetts over the weekend. The Owls were beaten by Becker College Saturday, 6-0, and then lost to Fisher College Sunday, 4-1.

Matt Manter, the starting goalkeeper, had 13 saves in the first game and 15 in the second. Cody Blair scored off a Jacob Worthley pass early in the second half against Fisher for the team’s only goal of the weekend.

The Owl women have dropped four consecutive games after winning their opener Sept. 10 and have been outscored by a 20-1 margin in the process.

On Sunday, UMPI lost to Bryant and Stratton-Liverpool in a home game by a final score of 5-1. UMPI trailed early before Jessy Dickison scored off an Abby Deveau assist for the equalizer in the 25th minute. The visiting Bobcats scored two more before halftime and notched two insurance tallies in the second half for the easy win.
