Viking boys bounced from postseason

HOWLAND, Maine — The playoff road came to an end for the East Grand boys soccer team Friday after the No. 11 Vikings of Danforth lost to No. 6 Penobscot Valley 5-0 in preliminary playoff action.

The game marked the first time the boys soccer program has qualified for the postseason in at least the past 15 years, according to East Grand coach Shaun Beaudoin.

In Friday’s game, the host-Howlers received two goals from Zach Doore, while Brad McKechnie and Xander Hayes each had a goal and an assist. Carson Gray had a solo goal as well for PVHS (10-3-2).

Brady McEwen came up with 13 saves on 28 shots for East Grand (6-9), while Elijah Wood made five saves on six shots for the Howlers.
