MAPLETON, Maine – John Charles Rooney, 86, went home to be with his Savior on November 1, 2017, at the Presque Isle Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born on December 7, 1930, in Houlton, the son of Ralph and Bernice (Haggerty) Rooney.
John drove tractor trailer for many years starting his career with O’Donnell’s Express of Houlton, then continued his driving career with Sanborn Motor Express of Presque Isle, then for APA Transport until his retirement. He loved to work and he loved to drive. John was a faithful member of State Street Baptist Church in Presque Isle, where his presence will be sadly missed by all his dear friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Dawna Rae (Craig) Rooney, two sons and one stepson, Donald Rooney and his wife, Denise of Mapleton, Steve Rooney and his wife, Debbie of Easton, and Craig Lint and his wife, Beth of Presque Isle; three daughters and one stepdaughter, Cheryl Carter and her husband, Vaughn, Christy Tompkins and her husband, Wilfred, Debbie Wolverton and her husband, Barry all of Easton, and Lesley (Lint) Doebler and her husband, Mark of Peoria, IL; a brother, Marim Rooney and his wife, Ruth of Hermon. In addition to children, he has been blessed with 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered by special sisters-in-law, Mary Niles and Jeanne Lothrup.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by siblings, Lawrence (Buddy), Leona, Laura, Ralph, and Ethel, and two special granddaughters; Mandy Rooney and Trudy Tompkins.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at State Street Baptist Church, Presque Isle.
