Gary Aiken attends final council meeting as Mayor

CARIBOU, Maine — After six years on City Council, five of which were spent as Caribou’s Mayor, Gary Aiken attended his final meeting as a member on Dec. 11.

At the end of the meeting, Deputy Mayor David Martin presented Aiken with an award and thanked him for his service to the city.

“This is Mr. Aiken’s last meeting,” Martin said, “unless he calls a special one. And on behalf of the city, I’d like to present this as a token of appreciation for your service and dedication. I really enjoyed working with you, and I appreciate your financial knowledge.”

All attendants applauded as Martin handed Aiken a wooden clock with his name engraved on a gold plate.
“I’d like to say I’ve enjoyed working with all councilors here, as well as the city staff,” Aiken said. “We haven’t always agreed on things, but we’ve always been able to listen to each other and different viewpoints. I think that’s a good thing and I hope it carries on.”
