HOULTON, Maine — A Houlton woman was taken to a local hospital on Tuesday evening after she was struck by a car as she walked along the side of the road.

Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLuca said Wednesday that Alex Croxen, 18, of Houlton was traveling eastbound on Franklin Avenue in a 2005 Pontiac when he encountered two adults and one child walking down the side of the roadway pushing a snow blower. Due to icy conditions and movements by the pedestrians, Croxen attempted to reduce his speed, lost control of the vehicle and struck Jill Acott, 34, of Houlton.

Roadways in the community were slick due to a storm in the area.

Acott was taken to Houlton Regional Hospital to be treated for her injuries. Officials at the hospital said Tuesday that they could not release any information on Acott’s status or if she was still hospitalized.

DeLuca said that the accident is under investigation but no charges are expected to be filed.
