Dressed in red, children from the Woodland Consolidated School join in the Dec. 15 celebration of the traditional Swedish St. Lucia Day. From left are Pepparkakorgubbars Avery Hewitt, Luca Peterson, Aubrey Cyr and Sophia Cote, with Tomtegubbar William Tracy. The celebration included Mackenzie Tracy as this year’s Lucia; Mrs. Martin’s eighth grade as Attendants and Star Boys; and Mrs. Stephen’s pre-K class as Pepperkakorgubbars and Tomtegubbars (the cookie people). Mrs. Landeen’s fourth grade hosted the celebration, and the third and fourth grades sang the St. Lucia song. The celebration concluded with Pepparkakor (Swedish ginger cookies) baked by Karla Fisher, and a ring dance, “Nu Ha Vi Ljus,” around the holiday tree. Musicians were Steve Boody, Whitley Green and Jennifer Holmes.
