Friday and Saturday will be a busy time on the hardwood for local boys and girls basketball teams with a bundle of games on the schedule.
But those are not the only teams busy as Caribou’s wrestling squad, as well as Nordic and alpine skiers, swimmers and hockey squads will also be in action.
Nordic skiers Ashland, Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Madawaska, MSSM and Presque Isle will be at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle Friday for a 3 p.m. meet.
The Carlisle swim team heads to Ellsworth Friday for a 7 p.m. meet that also includes George Stevens Academy.
The Presque Isle hockey team will have a long weekend of traveling as the team heads to Old Town Friday to take on the Old Town/Orono collaborative team at 5 p.m. The Wildcats then play at Camden Hills Saturday at 6:10 p.m. at the Midcoast Recreation Center.
Also on the ice for two games this weekend is the Houlton-Hodgdon-Southern Aroostook-Katahdin squad. The Black Hawks host Brewer Friday at 7 p.m. and travel to Oakland Saturday to take on Messalonskee at 1 p.m.
The Caribou wrestlers travel to Bucksport Saturday for a 9:30 a.m. meet with Ellsworth, Washington Academy, Mattanawcook Academy, Dexter, PCHS, PVHS, Madison, Foxcroft Academy and Calais.
Alpine skiers from Caribou, Central Aroostook and Presque Isle held north to Fort Kent Saturday for a 10 a.m. meet.
In boys basketball action Friday night, Madawaska comes to Stacyville to face Katahdin at 4 p.m.; East Grand travels to St. Agatha to take on Wisdom at 5:30 p.m.; Easton travels to Van Buren at 7 p.m.; Houlton hosts Calais, 7 p.m.; Presque Isle is at Ellsworth, 7:30 p.m.; and Caribou travels to Mount Desert Island, 7:30 p.m.
For girls basketball Friday, Madawaska plays at Katahdin, 5:30 p.m.; East Grand travels to St. Agatha to take on Wisdom at 4 p.m.; Easton is at Van Buren, 5:30 p.m.; Caribou is at MDI, 6 p.m.; and Presque Isle is at Ellsworth, 6 p.m.

Scores from Thursday games were as follows:
Fort Kent girls 32, Ashland 28 — At Ashland, Desiree Hafford scored 13 points and Cassidy Lovely added seven as Fort Kent improved to 11-4 on the season.
Jamie Poulin led Ashland (7-7) with 11 points while Morgan Doughty and Megan Cote added eight points apiece.
Ashland led 7-2 in the first quarter, and the two teams were tied at 11-11 at halftime. Fort Kent went up 22-20 after three periods.
Fort Fairfield boys 84, Washburn 27 — At Fort Fairfield, Jared Harvey scored 31 points as the Tigers topped Washburn. Isaac Cyr added 21 points for Fort Fairfield.
Konner Jordan led Washburn with 12 points.
The Tigers led 31-12, 51-17 and 61-23 at the quarter breaks.
Fort Kent boys 82, Ashland 34 — At Ashland, Caleb Delisle and Eden Paradis each scored 17 points as Fort Kent earned its sixth straight victory. Jace Rocheleau added 16 points for the 11-3 Warriors.
Bailey Clark led 3-11 Ashland with 15 points.
Fort Kent led 33-10, 52-15, 70-23.
Houlton boys 68, Central Aroostook 30 — At Mars Hill, Cam Cleary scored a game-high 14 points as Houlton jumped out to a big early lead and went on to score a point worthy victory over Central Aroostook.
Houlton is now 10-3 while Central Aroostook dips to 12-4. Houlton led 19-4, 32-15 and 48-21 at the quarter breaks.
Katahdin boys 56, Southern Aroostook 52 (OT) — At Dyer Brook, Southern Aroostook pushed Katahdin to overtime, but it was the Cougars who prevailed 56-52.
“It was close the whole way for the most part,” Katahdin coach James McNally said. “Tight game throughout the first half. In the third quarter we tweaked our press a bit and went on a good run including going up by 10 at one point late in quarter, but SACS battled back. We could have sealed the game in the fourth with some better foul shooting and shot selection but SACS worked hard and it was a very intense dramatic game for the final four minutes of the fourth quarter and through overtime, with lots of lead changes and key moments.”
Brody Guigged led the Cougars with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and eight steals. Hunter Craig posted 14 points and Rig Otero added 13 for Katahdin. Other Cougar efforts included Cooper Drew, eight points, nine rebounds, and three steals and John McNally with eight rebounds.
For SACS, Jayden Burpee had 16 points, Xavier Morales had 14 points, and Garrett Siltz had 11 points.
SACS led 17-16 in the first quarter and 21-18 at the half before Katahdin went up 35-32 after three periods. The two teams were locked at 44-44 at the end of regulation. Katahdin improves to 10-2 on the season, while SACS drops to 4-10.
