FORT KENT, Maine — Caribou was shorthanded for its third wrestling meet of the season against the Fort Kent Warriors, held Jan. 31, and the result was a 51-24 defeat.

The two schools are the only ones with wrestling programs in Aroostook County.

“I love going to Fort Kent as the staff, coaches, wrestlers and fans show good hospitality,” said Viking coach James “Chico” Hernandez. “We have a very good relationship with them as we are pushing each other in these final few weeks.”

The teams each prevailed by a margin of one point in the first two meetings, but the Warriors took advantage of some absences to win convincingly in the rubber match.

Caribou’s only victory in a contested match came in the 145 lb. division as Cory Jandreau pinned Alex Beaulieu for his 108th career win. He has won 80 by pin, which according to Hernandez is a school record.

Caleb Robbins (126), Angel Riopelle (132) and Kirtas Jandreau (195) all won by forfeit for the Vikings.

Rylee Saucier fell short in her 106 match by decision. Kaden DeMerchant (152), Matthew McCormack (160), Jeremy Bolen (170) and Cage Lister (182) all lost via pin.
