United Way seeks funding Volunteers

United Way of Aroostook is looking for approximately 25 volunteers from around the County to serve on its Fund Distribution Task Force. These volunteers will work as a team to review and evaluate applications from County-based health and human service agencies which are seeking funding from United Way of Aroostook.

Volunteers on the task force will be identifying and recommending funding levels for programs that are meeting our County’s most crucial needs in the areas of health, education, and financial stability. The Task Force will meet two times, once for an organizational meeting on March 13th at 3:00 p.m. at the Maine Potato Board Conference Room, 744 Main Street, Presque Isle and one all-day session. The date and location of the all-day session will be determined at the first meeting by those who have volunteered to be on the committee.

This “citizen review process” is very thorough in determining the best use of the dollars raised by United Way of Aroostook. The agencies and programs that apply for United Way of Aroostook funding are required to identify specific uses for funding as well as long term sustainability efforts of programming, both of which will work towards leading individuals to self-sufficiency.

“People making donations to United Way of Aroostook can be assured their contributions are being used right here in Aroostook County, doing the most for those people who really need help. Our Task Force volunteers will make a thorough evaluation of all applications, make site visits, and then give the committee its recommendations on funding,” says Wanda Guiggey, Chair of the Community Investment Committee.
