CARIBOU, Maine — January 2, 2018 was a cold wintry evening, but that did not stop the Holy Rosary Circle 638 Daughters of Isabella from meeting.

The winner of the 50/50 Drawing was Claire Randolph.  Past Regent Mary Ellen Field was selected to receive a birthday gift for the month of January. “Happy Birthday” was sung to all January birthday ladies.

Business Meeting called to order at 6:05 PM by Regent Elaine Haines.  Rita Worley stepped in as our Chancellor for the meeting and led us in Opening Prayer.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Draping of the Charter for our deceased member Iva Deveau was led by Regent Elaine, Rita Worley and Robin Fortin, who stepped in as Monitor.  The Memorial Hymn for our deceased was sung.

Roll Call of Officers was taken with 8 out of 18 officers in attendance. Recording Secretary Jeanine Morneault read the minutes of the December meeting, which were accepted as read.

Commications shared with the Circle consisted of: Thank you cards from Peg Winston, Wil and Sonia Labbe, and Theresa Wunderlich.  Christmas greetings came from Doris Nadeau and Lou Wark. Regent Elaine Haines received word from International that our Circle’s Internal Rules have been approved. The 25-year pins to Ruth Getchell and Beverly McNeal still need to be presented.

Dolores Martin reported Thinking of You and Get Wells cards were sent to:  Peg Winston, State Regent Martha Dufour, Germaine Albair, Lou Wark and Theresa Wunderlich.  22 Christmas cards were sent to our Circle’s shut-ins and others and 18 Thank You cards went out to our Discount Card vendors.  Cards will be sent to: Germaine Michaud, Theresa Wunderlich and Jeannine Belanger.

Gail Hjort reported that 4 layettes had been given to Cary Medical. We received many items for the layette and $80 in donation for our Baby Jesus collection in December.

Dolores Martin reported that there were no winners from our Circle for the 40-Week Club.

Gail Hjort has added to the Prayer Line those who are lonely and depressed.

The 31-Club is an important ministry that enables us to pray for vocations.  The 31-Club is a prayer ministry where a person commits to pray for vocations on a specific day of every month.  Please remember to pray your Monthly Rosary.

Jeanine Morneault has been voted to serve as 2018 Queen Isabella for our Circle.  She received a crown, gift card to Brambleberry Market and a photo was taken.  Mary Ellen Field is runner-up.

Dolores Martin informed the Circle that the Daughters are doing a good job selling the Discount Cards, but there are still many left.  Anyone interested in purchasing a Discount Card, please contact a member of the Daughters of Isabella.

The 75-Daughters of Isabella Anniversary books are available, but due to low meeting attendance, Mary Ellen will wait for the February meeting to see if there is more interest.  Anyone interested in purchasing a book, please see a Daughter for information.

The Van Buren Circle is initiating the possibility of order state Daughter of Isabella T-shirts.  More discussion will follow at February’s meeting.

Michelle Hersey sent Regent Elaine an e-mail checking for possible interest in inviting a speaker from the Aroostook Regional Task Force from Presque Isle to speak about a special program.  Regent Elaine will discuss further with Michelle.

Stand-in Chancellor Rita Worley led the Circle in Closing Prayer. Meeting adjourned.

There was no refreshments/social time at this meeting.
