PETER R. FITZPATRICK, SOMERS, CT – Peter R. Fitzpatrick, 81, of Somers, CT, husband of Erlene (Field) Fitzpatrick, entered into Eternal Rest on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at home. Peter was born on March 27, 1936, in Houlton, ME, the son of the late Ronald and Bernice (McSheffrey) Fitzpatrick.
After High School, Peter attended New England Technical Institute, specializing in Heating and Air Conditioning. Peter proudly served from 1957 to 1960 in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. He was a devout Catholic and longtime faithful parishioner of All Saints Church in Somersville. Peter was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4303 in Somers. Peter was a self-employed horseman for over 41 years and raised, bred, and trained Morgan horses and Standbred race horses. Peter was known to many as mister fix-it, he could fix just about anything and if you needed a good cup of coffee you could always stop by the farm.
Peter had a love of nature he loved all creatures big and small, from deer to grey squirrels, fireflies, and humming birds. He had an inborn fondness for all animals, especially his rescued Sheltie Dogs, Rascal, Ringo, and Stormy. Peter acquired and learned his first notebook computer and smart phone at the age of 80.
In addition to his wife, Erlene, to whom he was married 57 years, he is also survived by his beloved daughter, Karen M. Fitzpatrick of Ellington; his siblings, Florence Lilley of Newport, Doris Gardiner of Hogdon, and Donnie Fitzpatrick and his wife, Becky. Peter is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jane Curry and her husband, Stu, and many nieces and nephews, especially Ronnie, Tammy, Johnna, Cindy, Kim, Karla, Mark, Peter, Susie, Wanda, Brenda, Paul, Roy Niles and his wife, Deb, and their children, Jason and Kimberly, Phillip Field, Jr., and his wife, Martha and their children and several other great-nieces and great-nephews and a special neighbor, David Osborn. Peter was predeceased by his siblings, Kenneth, Alice, James, William, Milton, Herbie, Neil, Earl, and Gerald.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Peter was celebrated at All Saints Church in Somersville, CT. Burial will be held at a later date in Maine.
