Collins, Duncombe and Chacho gain post-season honors

The Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches and Writers Association announced end-of-season awards Monday that recognized three University of Maine at Presque Isle players.

The coaches and writers group named Senior Kevin Collins to the second team, selected freshman Deandre Duncombe for all-rookie team honors, and named Anthony Chacho, a senior, to the all-defensive team.

Final statistics also were released. Collins finished eighth in the association in scoring at 14.9 points per game. Maurice Harris was seventh in rebounding, pulling down an average of 7 per game, while Chacho placed eighth at 6.7 per game.

Duncombe was third in assists with 3.5 per game and Chacho was tied for eighth with 3.1 per game. Chacho’s 1.6 steals per game put him tied for third overall, while Collins collected 1.3 per game, tied for eighth.

Harris tied for seventh in blocks with 1 per game and Kim Collins was tied for ninth at .8 per game. Chacho, Duncombe and Kevin Collins were all in the top five in minutes per game, with Chacho leading the way at 35. Duncombe came in at 32.3, good for fourth, and Collins at 32.2, placing him fifth.

Chacho registered a 2.2 assists-to-turnovers ratio, fourth in the association. Collins came in at 1.6, tied for ninth.

The MMBCWA includes Bates, Bowdoin, Colby, Husson, Maine Maritime Academy, UM-Farmington, UM-Presque Isle, University of New England, Saint Joseph’s College, Southern Maine and Thomas.

Raheem Anderson of Husson was named Player of the Year. Jack Casale of Saint Joseph’s was the Rookie of the Year and Dean Weiner of Colby was the Defensive Player of the Year. St. Joseph’s Rob Sanicola picked up Coach of the Year honors.
