PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Aroostook Medical Center and Maine Agri-Women are once again partnering to offer a free community program designed to educate and bring awareness to issues important to women.
The third annual County Women’s Health Conference will be held at TAMC’s conference center on Saturday, April 14, from 8 a.m. to noon.
The conference provides the opportunity to learn more about key issues related to women’s health and general well-being, as well as to talk with professionals.
“This conference is geared to all women, all ages, from all walks of life,” said Jamie Guerrette, community health specialist at TAMC. “We have found a great partnership with the Maine Agri-Women and we’re so excited to be able to work together on this project.”
Hosting this year’s conference will be Katie Zarrilli, a reporter from WAGM-TV.
Four educational workshops are planned:
Who Are We Caring For? Women in the millennial generation are often caring for their adult children, grandchildren and/or aging parents. How do we take care of ourselves when we are caring for others? Learn about stress awareness, coping and self-care with Ralph McPherson, a licensed clinical social worker for Beacon Health.
OMT: Making a Difference with Pelvic Pain and Female Incontinence. Learn how osteopathic manipulation can make a difference if you are suffering from pelvic floor dysfunction, with Dr. Kristin Guerrette from Aroostook Family Practice and Internal Medicine.
Recognizing the Signs: Heart Disease in Women. Signs of a heart attack can be very different in women than they are in men. Learn what to look for with Amanda Rautenberg, PA-C, a provider at Aroostook Heart and Lung.
Just Because It’s Legal Doesn’t Mean It’s Safe. Learn what you need to know about adult use of marijuana with Lola Poirier, a substance use prevention counselor from ACAP.
“We are very proud to be a co-sponsor of this event,” said Pam Townsend, president of Maine Agri-Women. “We are partnering with TAMC because we believe that women’s health is a very important topic. We as women are always busy making sure that everyone else in the family is taken care of and often neglect our own wellbeing.”
A County-style brunch will be offered, including ployes, a yogurt bar and local potato products, among other food items. Also included in the conference will be educational displays, door prizes and giveaways.
While the event is free, pre-registration is required since space is limited. For more information or to register for the County Women’s Health Conference visit www.tamc.org or call the registration line at (207) 768-4033.
