PIHS athletes honored at awards ceremony

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Presque Isle High School’s winter athletic awards were presented Monday, March 19. Participants in cheering, swimming, skiing, hockey and basketball were honored during the evening.

Coaches met with their respective teams as part of the evening, which also included the presentation of league all-star and all-academic awards and a slideshow highlighting photographs taken of members of all the teams throughout the season.

Several special awards were given out. Madison Jandreau, Trace Cyr and Adam Paterson, who each earned six varsity letters, were presented sweatshirts.

Athletes with four letters in the same sport received jackets: Libbee Currie (swimming), Elizabeth Deschenes (swimming), Madelyn Wing (swimming) and Chandler Paradis (alpine skiing). Students Izzy Jackson (Nordic skiing), Emily Wheaton (basketball), Griffin Guerrette (basketball) and Max Bartley (Nordic skiing) all also were eligible for a jacket in their respective sports but had already received theirs in a fall sport.

Isaac Madore was recognized as the Presque Isle hockey team’s Hobey Baker Award recipient. Both Savannah Rodriguez and Jonah Hudson received Butch Shaw Awards from soccer season, and Maddie Michaud was honored as Presque Isle’s fourth All-New England soccer player in school history.

Kelsie Spooner, coach of the varsity cheering squad, handed out a certificate to freshman Kylie Scott, first-year letters to freshmen Delaney Alward, Isabella Harvath, Jeanna Knight, Sydney Robichaud and Brooke Schneider; and juniors Julia Good and Mayce Kinney;  second-year letters to sophomores Hana Boucher, Jayde Cook, Taylor Hedrich, Clara Kohlbacher, Sophia Lambert, Claire Mautz, Alexis Moro, Rebekah Poliero and Erica Rosten; and juniors Miranda Drost and Emma Kohlbacher; and third-year letters to Jessica Boucher and Kiara Lyford.

Erica Hemphill, a coach for the Carlisle co-op swim team, gave PIHS sophomore Hannah Clark a first-year letter and seniors Libbee Currie, Elizabeth Deschenes and Maddie Wing fourth-year letters.

Nordic ski coach Von Perry presented a first-year letter to freshman Amanda Winslow; a second-year letter to sophomore Connor Albertson; a third-year letter to junior Garrett Morneault; and fourth-year letters to seniors Isabelle Jackson and Max Bartley.

Scott Smith, coach of the alpine ski team, awarded a certificate to freshman Declan Curtis; first-year letters to freshmen Izabelle Higgins, Baileigh Moreau and Ryder Wight; sophomores Alex Graves and Alec Staples; and junior Seth Roy; second-year letters to sophomore Riley Roderick and juniors Zechariah Morse and Grace Bemis; third-year letters to juniors Sheridan Boucher, Eleanor St. Peter and Kyler Caron; and a fourth-year letter to senior Chandler Paradis.

Coach Carl Flynn and assistant Darren Carlisle honored members of the varsity hockey team. Freshmen Landyn Newlands and Brandon Poitras and sophomore manager Laura Garrison earned certificates, while freshmen Colby Carlisle, Gage LeTourneau, Cameron Levasseur and Noah Roy; sophomore Tanner Smith and junior manager Brooke Moreau earned first-year letters. Sophomores Bryce Bonville, Colby Bonville, Connor Demerchant and Carter Jackson and juniors Andre Daigle and Bailey York earned second-year letters. Juniors Riley Kinney, Torey Levesque, Thomas Patenaude and Jake Stevens; and seniors Devin Ireland, Colin Daigle and Isaac Madore were all presented third-year letters.

On behalf of JV II basketball coach David Whitaker, Greg Whitaker presented certificates to freshmen Chance Bragan, Jacob Devine, Mason Fletcher, Jude Mosher, Connor Rideout and Ethan Wydysh and sophomore players Gavin Akeley, Blake Inman, Joseph Michaud and Nathan Willett and sophomore managers Meagan Grant and Abbie Yarema.

Tim McCue, who coaches the girls’ JV basketball team, gave certificates to freshmen players Macie Bartley, Hattie Bubar, Meg Casavant, Juliana Hundely, Rhylee Kinney, Rachel Milliard, Jenna Sargent, Portia Shaw and managers Jayden McPherson and Valerie St. Peter; sophomore players Allison Himes, Alana Legassie, Elizabeth Nadeau, Elise Nelson, Rebecca Rider, Anna Trombley and manager Liliana Wardell; and junior player Kamryn Gilmour.

The coach of the boys’ JV basketball team, Ron McAtee, presented certificates to freshmen player Ben Ryan and manager Hadley McLean, sophomore players Sam Beaulieu, Jacob Bonville, Noah Flynn and manager Harleigh Brewer; and junior players William Bridges, Mark Graves, Andrew Hewitt, Nagoo Morey, Chase Quirion, Ty Schneider and Mason Young.

Girls’ varsity head coach Jeff Hudson and assistant coach Ralph Michaud handed out certificates to freshmen managers Riley Davis and Janelle Doak; sophomores Alana Legassie, Libby Moreau and Rebecca Rider; and junior Elizabeth Collins; first-year letters to sophomore Maggie Castonguay, juniors Madison Jandreau and Sydney Thompson and senior managers Jaida Beaulieu and Meg Butler; second-year letters to juniors Molly Kingsbury and Madison Michaud and seniors Kasey Haley and Chrissy Skidgel; a third-year letter to junior Savannah Rodriguez; and a fourth-year letter to senior Emily Wheaton.

Members of the boys’ varsity basketball team, under head coach Terry Cummings and assistant coach Greg Whitaker, also were cited for their participation this winter. Sophomore manager Meghann Collins and junior players Nagoo Morey, Cole Paterson, Carter Rice and Jacob Sjoberg received certificates. Sophomore Caleb Wheaton, junior player Trace Cyr, junior manager Libby Boone, senior manager Emma Willett, and senior players Jack Bonville, Jordan Bonville, Adam Paterson, and Justin Wei all received first-year letters. Juniors Jason Dumais and Jonah Hudson were third-year letter winners and Griffin Guerrette earned a fourth-year letter.
