Pickleball tourney planned in Caribou

CARIBOU, Maine — A popular new sport in the region will be showcased at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center during the upcoming April vacation.

The recreation department is hosting its first pickleball tournament for anyone ages 16 and older.

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. It is a fun game for all ages and abilities and promotes a great social and active lifestyle.

The tournament will be held Monday, April 16, beginning at 9 a.m. A minimum of six teams will be needed in order for the event to be held. There will two divisions — mixed doubles and doubles. The cost is $10 for each team entered. Awards will be presented to the top teams in each division. The deadline to enter is Thursday, April 12.
