Jackins takes over CA varsity softball position

MARS HILL, Maine — Kevin Jackins has been teaching physical education for 33 years at Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School and has coached several different athletic teams along the way.

Varsity softball coach is his latest venture after being hired to replace Julie Conrad, who stepped aside after one season.

Athletic Director Heather Bradbury said Jackins has had stints coaching varsity baseball, varsity girls basketball and volleyball at Central Aroostook in the past and she is glad to have someone in-house to take the softball job.

“It’s always nice when you can hire teachers on staff for these coaching positions,” Bradbury said. “They already know the kids, they are aware of events going on at school and they are aware of the academic side of things.”

Jackins had served as the junior high baseball coach for several years prior to accepting the new job.

Practices began Monday, March 26, for the softball team, which Bradbury said includes 17 or 18 girls this season.
