Irene Vivian “Viv” DeForest

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Irene Vivian “Viv” DeForest, 94, died Friday, March 30, 2018, at Madigan House, Houlton, following a short battle with cancer. She was born December 29, 1923, to Joseph and Catherine Cyr.

She married Robert B. DeForest Jr., February 21, 1950. Together, they raised three daughters. A few years after marrying, they built a home in Presque Isle, where she resided until a few years ago. For much of her life, she was a homemaker, but come fall she did as many others in The County, picking potatoes and cutting seed. She enjoyed working in her flowerbeds, sewing special gifts for loved ones and reading.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was predeceased by her husband in 1989; brothers: David, Roland, Ralph, Ivan, Freeman and Joseph; and sisters: Madeline McLellan, Lillian LaFrance and Catherine Cyr.
She is survived by daughters: Vena and Scott Lary, Colorado Springs; Sally and Dave Magee, Cumberland Center; and Kathy and James McCarty, Washburn. She also leaves four grandchildren: Brynn Moulton, Trevor and Devin Bean, and Traci Stone; and two special great-grandchildren: Caleb Moulton and David Abernathy.
She is now at peace and will be reunited with her three cats: Jake, Maggie and Norman, and dog, Sampson.
There will be no calling hours or funeral. A private graveside service and interment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Main Street, Presque Isle later this year.
